After a casual conversation during a mother-daughter evening stroll, a late night brainstorm evolved into a renewed commitment to family and country. The Foundation began simply with a ‘start in your small corner’ mindset coupled with a long-standing dream to honor the work of a powerhouse woman whose humble beginnings encouraged a life of compassionate, selfless and silent service and philanthropy that inspired her 4 children. With God at the forefront of decision making, understanding her passion for children and education; and after a small tug-of-war over the use of her name: The Valda Hope Foundation was birthed.

With the help of a few individual donors who were quick to support our mission in 2017, our first cohort of scholarship winners were awarded. Today, our positive impact has expanded into places and to persons beyond our jottings on scraps of paper that night and we remain devoted to keeping the legacy and mission of Mrs. Valda Hope Salmon alive while she can still “smell her flowers” and beyond!
